When I was 17 I saw a shooting star
laying side by side on the sand at the beach
with my best friend and up until that moment
I would've sworn up and down that they didn't exist
now every time I see a star shoot across the sky
I get a jolt inside chest, as I start to realize
my mind moves 1,000 miles per hour to that night
the sand between my toes
and shiny dots up in the sky
that night I never made a wish and I regret
that I never took a picture because I bet you my life
that's the happiest I looked in 2012
watching the stars on the beach at night
when I returned home late that night I jumped in bed
and couldn't sleep
that magic moment kept me thinking for hours, days, and weeks
of that night in 2012 when i discovered hope exists
the sand between my toes
and shiny dots up in the sky
now every time I see a star shoot across the sky
I get a jolt inside chest, as I start to realize
my mind moves 1,000 miles per hour to that night
the sand between my toes
and shiny dots up in the sky
